The All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Western Rail Link to Heathrow meet at Westminster
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Western Rail Link to Heathrow (WRLtH) met on Wednesday 6 February to continue its case for and delivery of the rail scheme. Stakeholders included LEPs, Local Authorities and businesses heard from guest speaker Sir John Armitt, Chair of National Infrastructure Commission, as well as the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce. The meeting also gave Parliamentarians the opportunity to show their support of the project.
Tim Smith, Chief Executive of Thames Valley Berkshire LEP said, “This APPG was extremely constructive and reiterated the clear and strong support for a western rail link to Heathrow airport - from the Greater Thames Valley, the south and south west of England and from Wales. Parliamentarians from both houses and across parties expressed their support. But it also demonstrated that nothing can be taken for granted and the delivery of WRLTH will only be achieved through partnership.
“This is the LEP’s number one infrastructure priority, so we’re determined to continue to play a full and leading role in that partnership.”
