National Apprenticeship Week 2019 in the Thames Valley Berkshire LEP area
National Apprenticeship Week 2019 - #NAW2019 - takes place from Monday 8 March to Friday 8 March. It is co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service and is based around the theme of “Blaze a Trail”. This year's theme will showcase how apprenticeships bring new energy and passion into organisations. Apprenticeships are a great path for people at any stage of their career from those starting out, to those re-entering the workforce, or those wanting to reskill or change careers.
A range of events nationally and across the Thames Valley Berkshire LEP area will feature employers and apprentices showcasing how they work together; and information sessions from skills and training providers, and other organisations, responsible for promoting apprenticeship numbers.
The current Government's target is to have created three million apprenticeship starts by 2020. To accomplish this, in April 2017 it officially launched the Apprenticeship Levy; a requirement that all UK employers with an annual wages bill of over £3million pay 0.5% of that sum towards a central fund, to be invested in quality apprenticeships training.
Thames Valley Berkshire LEP - the business led partnership promoting economic and jobs growth across its area - is putting significant investment into skills and training, including helping employers take on more apprentices; as part of its mission to promote sustainable careers and help employers fill ‘skills gaps’ in their workforces which affect productivity. The LEP has funded numerous skills projects including the Berkshire Apprenticeship Service.
Apprenticeship events across the week in Berkshire include:
- Thursday 7 March - STEAM Speed Networking Event
- Thursday 7 March - Apprenticeship Open Day
- Friday 8 March - Apprenticeships vs Internships – whats better for my business?
